SpectSoft Expands Storage to Rave
Supporting up to uncompressed 4K throughput
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 16, 2010 at 3:16 pm"SpectSoft’s newest addition to the Rave product line, which will debut at the National Association of Broadcasters convention, offers the ability to daisy-chain external JBOD systems to Rave," states Ramona Howard, President of SpectSoft, LLC. "Both the internal drive array and the attached JBODs can be capable of supporting up to uncompressed 4K throughput. This support allows for both the addition of capacity while maintaining throughput, two factors that are equally important when working with uncompressed content, especially 3D uncompressed content."
Rave is a Linux based solution geared towards multi-user, high-end workflows that first emerged in 2001 and has since found its way into many high-end facilities worldwide. Designed to emulate a deck and natively support DPX frames for capture and playback, Rave offers the most comprehensive, expandable solution on the market today. With the flexibility and benefits of a file server, Rave is offering facilities an easy, inexpensive way to maintain a fully uncompressed digital path.
Rave supports both video and data infrastructures and allows DPX frames to immediately be usable, no matter where they originate from.
Features of Rave include:
- Supports up to 2 SDI streams of 4:4:4, simultaneously for capture or playback
- Supports up to 4 SDI streams of 4:2:2 for playback (capture later this year)
- Supports both Independent dual streams and sync’d stereoscopic (4:2:2 or 4:4:4)
- Integrated tools for working with 3D material
- The ability to be raster independent with real-time scaling
- Supports both uncompressed and compressed formats
- Supports 8, 10, 12 and 16bit files (capture and playback)
- Supports Fiber, 10Gb and Infinband for pushing/pulling data from other sources
- No license fee for the addition of extra storage shelves
- SAN Support
- Automatic database indexing of files
- Professional timecode and VANC data support
- Master and Slave RS422 support
- Supports up to 16 channels of embedded audio or 8 channels of AES
- Conform and Batch Capture Support
- The ability to run on various hardware solutions
Rave has the ability to be used in every facet of the industry and with the ability to automate just about any function on Rave, users can now take some processes and fully automate them, saving time and money. "Rave has always been about flexibility and workflow while giving customers the tools they need, not just a bunch of fluff," adds Howard. Rave is certainly a tool for facilities that require the highest quality images at a price point they don’t expect.
"Rave 4.0 offers the ability to tap into every function of the solution, either by us internally or by outside users and vendors. Format support, processing, scripting and control are a few of these," comments Jason Howard, Lead Developer of Rave. "We designed this version exactly how the customer base wanted and allowed them a way to grow the solution outside of us. As a programmer this is exactly how I would want a product."
