Central Houston Selects The Planet Storage Cloud
To provide redundancy and backup
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 8, 2010 at 3:13 pmThe Planet announced that one of Houston’s premiere downtown business organizations has selected the company’s Storage Cloud to protect its critical data. Central Houston, Inc., which recently celebrated its 26th anniversary, is a private, non-profit organization that serves the stakeholders of Houston’s central city and has been the steward of Houston’s vision for the redevelopment and revitalization of downtown.
Central Houston supports the growth and development of the central city, collaborating with multiple companies and government organizations to ensure the cross-pollination of ideas and funding. The organization boasts an impressive membership roster, more than 100 strong, which comprises the leading companies located downtown. Among those are major corporations such as Chevron, Continental Airlines, Deloitte, ExxonMobil, JPMorgan Chase, KBR, Shell and Waste Management, legal firms, banks, major property owners, major league sports teams, and many others.
"Our organization plays a vital role for Houston’s central core in areas critical to its long-term growth and viability," said Bob Eury, President of Central Houston. "We focus on issues related to urban planning, economic development, transportation issues, public safety, governmental affairs, and cultural and entertainment programs. Our office provides a historical repository for downtown Houston, so safe data storage is critical. Just like other firms, we require off-site data storage. The Planet Storage Cloud provides redundancy and backup to protect our critical assets, and offers the peace of mind that we’re protected."
"Central Houston sets the pace for downtown, serving as the hub for activities that impact virtually every operating core," said The Planet’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Douglas J. Erwin. "Storage Cloud provides the capacity required to retain critical data, which Central Houston recognizes. We encourage companies, whether they host their IT infrastructure with The Planet or elsewhere, to consider storage and backup as strategic components. We’ve heard far too many stories about businesses that were unable to recover after a devastating data loss."

At Central Houston, the organization steadfastly lives by its belief that vision, commitment and collaboration are the keys to building a great city. Working in concert with virtually every organization in the public and private sector, Bob Eury and his team serve as the primary planning and coordination entity for downtown. They lead or assist in comprehensive planning advocacy and major improvements, working across multiple agencies to develop the associated implementation framework.
Central Houston provides support and counsel to programs and projects, always working to pioneer creative concepts and solutions for the vibrant inner city.
"Not long ago, downtown Houston was largely a vacated location after work," said Eury. "There was little residential infrastructure and few hotels. In just a few short years, we’ve seen a remarkable resurgence, supported by new infrastructure projects, residential development and vast entertainment opportunities. Today, downtown Houston provides an enviable venue and destination for businesses and entertainment, drawing a broad population to the city’s central core."
The organization works various strategic areas to support the highest-quality, sustainable revitalization of downtown and the center city.
"Houston residents have embraced the downtown resurgence, supporting the businesses that operate here," Eury notes. "There’s new construction – $3.7 billion since 2000 – despite the difficult economy, and we’re exceedingly optimistic about new residential and commercial development, as well as entertainment that continues to drive activity."
