For new Primergy servers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 1, 2010 at 2:53 pmLSI Corporation announced that Fujitsu Technology Solutions (FTS) has selected LSI 6Gb/s SAS RAID-on-Chip (ROC) and controller ICs and MegaRAID firmware for integration across the entire family of new FTS PRIMERGY servers. The LSI 6Gb/s SAS solutions provide new levels of storage performance, scalability and data protection for PRIMERGY x86-based rack, tower and blade servers.
"The past five generations of PRIMERGY servers have used LSI technology to deliver advanced storage connectivity and RAID functionality to our customers," said Jens-Peter Seick, senior vice president, x86 Server Business at Fujitsu Technology Solutions. "With the addition of 6Gb/s SAS technology, our customers expect increased levels of RAID performance and data protection, so once again we have turned to LSI, our long-time partner, for a diverse portfolio of proven SAS RAID solutions."
FTS PRIMERGY servers will incorporate a range of LSI 6Gb/s SAS products, including the LSISAS2008 I/O controller IC, the LSISAS2108 ROC and MegaRAID firmware, and the LSI SAS2x20 SAS expander IC.
LSI 6Gb/s SAS MegaRAID products have demonstrated a 190 percent throughput improvement for RAID 5 writes and a 240 percent throughput improvement for RAID 6 writes compared to products based on 3Gb/s SAS technology, translating to significant system performance gains.
"As one of the leading European IT infrastructure providers, FTS serves customers with intensive application requirements, ranging from financial services to scientific research," said Bill Wuertz, senior vice president, Storage Components Division, LSI. "As FTS deploys its new line of PRIMERGY servers, we are pleased that they have selected our end-to-end SAS portfolio to meet the I/O and RAID requirements of this demanding customer base."
