NTT America Upgrades NAS Service

With HDS platform

NTT America Inc., a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, has enhanced its portfolio of managed storage and recovery services with an upgraded Network Attached Storage (NAS) service. This NAS solution combines storage technology from Hitachi Data Systems with NTT America’s management expertise to deliver a flexible, scalable and cost-effective storage infrastructure.

NTT America’s NAS solution enables companies of all sizes to gain the advantages of a world-class storage infrastructure without the capital expenditure required for an in-house solution. It offers the scalability required to accommodate changing storage requirements and to plan for business continuity. It is ideal for the storage of ever-increasing unstructured content, such as electronic assets, digital documents, medical images, geosciences data and rich media.

NTT America’s NAS solution, based on the Hitachi NAS Platform, is a flexible, highly available storage infrastructure that incorporates industry best practices with superior components such as redundant fibre-channel switches, redundant network switches and enterprise-class storage arrays. Data security is assured by multiple measures, including data isolation, authentication and added Layer 2/3 Network security. The NAS infrastructure is protected with both logical and physical security controls in NTT America’s premier data centers.

Two tiers of NAS storage service options are offered to give customers greater flexibility and choice. NTT America manages the infrastructure and associated services end to end, and responds to customers’ changing needs by quickly provisioning additional capacity as it is required. Customers are able to view performance of their solution real time via NTT America’s Customer Portal.

"We are excited to offer an upgraded NAS solution based on the Hitachi Data Systems NAS platform," said Doug McMaster, Vice President of Products and Solutions, NTT America." We are seeing a growing number of customers in the Web 2.0 business space, and most of them are experiencing exponential growth in their unstructured data. We are pleased that our turnkey solutions are able to accommodate their growing storage needs be they measured in gigabytes or terabytes of storage capacity."

"We look forward to partnering with NTT America to help expand its service offerings," said Scanlon Putegnat, Vice President, File and Content Services and CME, Hitachi Data Systems. "The Hitachi NAS Platform lets NTTA give its customers a comprehensive set of file sharing and multiprotocol access capabilities to help store file and content data intelligently and cost effectively. With best-in-class performance and scalability, clustered active-active failover, single namespace manageability and fast snapshots and restores, Hitachi helps NTT America give its customers predictable service levels for unpredictable workloads.’

NTT America’s complete portfolio of managed storage and recovery solutions also includes Storage Area Networks (SAN); Direct Attached Storage (DAS); back up and restoral services; and off-site tape vaulting to supplement disaster recovery and business continuity plans. These services provide solutions for high-end, mid-range and low-end storage requirements.
