TDK Corp. reported its financial results for the third quarter ending December 31, 2009.
For its recording devices (HDD head ans others), sales decrease 0.7% from ¥208.4 billion to ¥206.9 billion (or US$ 2,249 billion) for the nine month period.
Sales of HDD heads also diminish slightly year to year on a three-month basis but increased from the first nine months of fiscal 2009. Nevertheless, the effect of falling prices and the yen’s appreciation against the U.S. dollar brought revenues down in monetary terms.
Quarterly, revenues of recording devices increased from ¥58.4 billion in 3Q09 to ¥73.6 billion (or $693 million) in 3Q10, representing 30.1% of the total sales of the company.
The company expects that its next generation of heads will be used to store 640GB on one 3.5-inch platter, and 320GB and 375GB per 2.5-inch disk.
