Asus and Fresco Logic With Various USB 3.0 Solutions
Platforms equipped with host controller chip for connectivity to HDDs and HD PC cameras
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 7, 2010 at 3:22 pmASUSTek Computer, Inc. and Fresco Logic, Inc., in USB 3.0 connectivity solutions, have combined their expertise in chip and system integration to become the enablers of USB 3.0, also known as SuperSpeed USB.
The CES demonstration in ASUS booth and in Fresco Logic booth showcase the accomplishments Fresco Logic and ASUS have achieved in bringing an end-to-end USB 3.0 solution to market and will highlight various ASUS platforms equipped with Fresco Logic’s FL1000 host controller chip for connectivity to peripherals such as storage devices and high definition PC cameras.
This comprehensive demonstration resulted from ASUS and Fresco Logic responding quickly to the strong market demand for USB 3.0. One configuration will have an ASUS N Series notebook with a Fresco Logic FL1000 host controller connected to a PC camera that is streaming high definition 1080p60 (1080p at 60 Hz) video. Another configuration will have an ASUS M4A77TD-E motherboard with a Fresco Logic FL1000 connected to a PC camera and a USB 3.0 capable external hard drive storage device, which demonstrates the capture of raw uncompressed high definition video and play back from the storage device.
"This demonstration is an important example of how ASUS and Fresco Logic continue to drive market leadership and meet the demand for USB 3.0,’" said Chewei Lin, General Manager, Motherboard Business Unit at ASUS. "Our collaboration with Fresco Logic has allowed ASUS to quickly introduce USB 3.0 to our major product lines just one year after the SuperSpeed USB specification was finalized. The collaboration also enables the best performance and cost ratio for our products and offers even more value to our customers."
"Fresco Logic and ASUS were able to benefit from each other’s core strengths to bring USB 3.0 solutions to market in so many different applications remarkably quickly," said Jing-fan Zhang, CEO of Fresco Logic. "Fresco Logic is pleased to enable equipment vendors, like ASUS, to develop their USB 3.0 product portfolio by reducing their time-to-market, lowering power consumption, and improving their price-performance through FL1000’s innovative architecture and implementation."
The FL1000 is a single-chip PCI Express to USB 3.0 host controller that enables connectivity for PCs, digital TV, storage, mobile and multimedia devices. The FL1000 is shipping now either as a discrete component or as a FL1000 enabled PCI Express add-in card or Express Card. With its architecture and high level of integration, the FL1000 delivers performance, while minimizing total system cost and design cycle time.
