Arkeia Software announced that LinkStar has become the latest hosting company to deploy Arkeia to deliver backup services to their customers. Using Arkeia Network Backup, LinkStar delivers a backup business that both increases customer loyalty and improves profitability.

LinkStar is a Virginia based hosting provider of fully managed dedicated servers and virtual managed servers that has provided highly available infrastructure since 2002. Using Arkeia Network Backup, LinkStar provides automated backups, combined with off-site storage, as well as an in-house Network Operations Center monitoring of backups. LinkStar backup services improve customer loyalty and reduce customer churn by giving customers the peace-of-mind of knowing critical data is protected.

Data backup represents a proven opportunity for hosting companies to expand their service offerings to existing customers. Since hosting companies already have a relationship with customers built on trust and have an existing revenue relationship, extending backup services can be an easy cross-sell. New technologies such as source-side deduplication, virtual appliances, hardware appliances and backup replication make it easier than ever to deliver reliable backup services. For hosting companies that already sell backup services based on Arkeia, between 55% and 90% of customers have bought backup services.

LinkStar provisions a standard volume of data per plan for managed dedicated servers. Customers are charged by data volume for backup-to-tape and backup to disk, and customers can select the granularity and the frequency of backups, such as weekly fulls or daily incrementals. The LinkStar PRO Backup Plan for managed dedicated servers includes 50GB of transfer per month with an overage at $1.50/GB, and provides a standard two week retention policy. Since Arkeia Network Backup is flexible, LinkStar also works with customers to tailor backup programs to meet their specific requirements.
