Adaptec RAID Controllers to Power Large Server Farm and Fast PCs
At Japanese companies Third Wave and A. T. Works
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 4, 2009 at 3:01 pmAdaptec, Inc. announced that its Unified Serial RAID controllers have been selected as the RAID solutions of choice by two leading Japanese technology product and service providers: Third Wave Corporation and A. T. Works, Inc.
Third Wave Corporation, a Tokyo-based developer of custom PCs and servers, selected the high-performance Adaptec 5805 Unified Serial (SATA/SAS) RAID controllers to power its high-end desktop PC line, the fastest desktop line of its kind available in Japan. Working in conjunction with Intel solid-state hard drives (SSD), the Adaptec controllers provide the ideal combination of ultra-high data processing speeds and low power consumption.
"With its advanced 1.2GHz processor-driven RAID firmware, the Adaptec 5805 outperformed every other RAID controller we tested," said Mr. Kentaro Mitsuyasu from the corporate division of Third Wave. "As a result, Adaptec Series 5 RAID controllers are part of the performance architecture that has become a standard in our current and next generation high-performance systems."
A. T. Works, Japan’s premier Internet services provider and manager of the country’s largest server farm, selected Adaptec Series 2 and Series 5 RAID controllers for its hosted specialized servers, as well as for various other general use servers. Following an in-depth evaluation of several competitive RAID devices, Adaptec’s controller was the only solution to meet all key criteria critical to A. T. Works IT managers, including, stability, scalability, performance, and Linux support, as well as Adaptec’s strong Japanese technical support capabilities.
"We put many RAID controllers through a thorough testing process," said Katsuyuki Okubo of A. T. Works’ Product Planning Division. "Adaptec RAID controllers met all of our requirements. More than any other vendor, Adaptec proved excellent in terms of compatibility and RAID features, and guaranteed extensive support under Linux in open source. Adaptec controllers also exhibited top sequential read/write performance while offering the stability that is essential for our hosted specialized servers."
A. T. Works was also impressed with Adaptec Storage Manager (ASM), which centralizes management of all Adaptec RAID products and allows for local and remote browser or application-based management across the network from a single console.
"We wanted to integrate management tools with an intuitive GUI into our server products," said Mr. Okubo. "Adaptec Storage Manager fit the bill. Adaptec Storage Manager provides an open source remote monitoring solution on a user-friendly control screen. Since this utility was already provided, there was no need to purchase additional management software."
About Adaptec RAID Series 2 & Series 5
Unified Serial Controllers
The Series 5 family of high-performance Adaptec Unified Serial (SATA/SAS) RAID controllers offers both high I/O transaction and high bandwidth processing for use with cost-effective, high-capacity SATA drives or high-performance SAS drives, and offers advanced RAID functionality including RAID 0, 1, 1E, 5, 5EE, 6, 10, 50, 60, JBOD. The Series 2 family of Adaptec Unified Serial (SATA/SAS) RAID controllers leverages the same industry-leading dual-core hardware RAID design as our industry-leading Series 5 Performance RAID controllers, with entry level RAID 0, 1, 10, JBOD. Both families support Adaptec Intelligent Power Management, an energy-saving feature that reduces storage power consumption by up to 70%.
