Used in combination with Voltaire’s 20 or 40 Gb/s InfiniBand switches, UFM software optimizes performance and management for high-performance scale-out data centers. Voltaire’s UFM software provides an unparalleled level of visibility into the fabric, which is extremely valuable to IT managers running complex environments that may include virtualization or multiple applications with varying service level requirements.

Voltaire UFM software truly differentiates Voltaire InfiniBand from alternative interconnect solutions by giving customers a comprehensive view of their environment helping them to better manage scale-out and meet their business objectives,” said Asaf Somekh, vice president of marketing, Voltaire. “Today’s announcement also marks an important milestone for Voltaire, with HP becoming one of the first global systems vendors to carry Voltaire’s management software, in addition to our hardware platforms. It is a testament to our leadership in delivering innovative software-based solutions to further enhance the capabilities of scale-out fabrics.”

UFM software is the industry’s first comprehensive management software to optimize performance of large server and storage scale-out fabrics. UFM software provides IT managers with a logical view of their infrastructure that bridges the traditional gap between servers, applications and fabric elements, creating a more effective and business-oriented way to manage and scale out high-performance fabrics.

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) recently selected Voltaire 40 Gb/s InfiniBand switches and UFM software for an HP supercomputer dedicated to cloud computing research. KIT’s new supercomputer, based on a total of 334 HP ProLiant DL2x170h G6 and ProLiant DL4x170h G6 servers, will serve as one of the centers of excellence for Open Cirrus, an open cloud computing research testbed designed to support research into the design, provisioning and management of services at a global, multi-data center scale. Voltaire UFM software gives KIT a uniquely well-architected fabric that delivers top performance as well as extended functionality, resource management and deep insight into total infrastructure activities for the cloud.

Customers deploying scale-out environments to enable business growth need solutions that are capable of supporting the increased network complexities without impacting system performance,” said Ed Turkel, manager, business development, Scalable Computing and Infrastructure, HP. “HP ProLiant servers coupled with Voltaire’s UFM software extends the capabilities of 20 and 40 Gb/s InfiniBand fabrics helping customers to further eliminate I/O bottlenecks allowing high performance applications to run faster and more efficiently as they grow.”
