Active Media Library is a pre-configured solution consisting of a server, an array of disks, and an LTO tape library, all managed with the Active Circle software. Active Media Library is available in 20-TB and 40-TB configurations, is rackable and occupies 4 to 6 units in a rack.

The Active Media Library is designed for broadcasters, production and post-production companies that struggle with sprawling video content. “With Active Media Library, it becomes very easy and affordable for broadcasters and post-production companies to integrate a video archive repository in their digital workflow, which liberates disk space on their production servers while securing their digital assets”, says Philippe Boyon, marketing director at Active Circle.

In a 40-TB configuration, the Active Media Library can store more than 650 hours of HD video or 2600 hours of SD video accessible near-line in the LTO library, and it is even possible to extract the ‘coldest’ archives out of the library, providing even more space for new content.

The Active Media Library features a first level of storage on disk with 4 TB of capacity, and a second level on tape. The Active Circle software automatically transfers data to LTO tape in a Hierarchical Storage Management approach (HSM).

Active Media Library offers file server access to all archives, including those on tape. All video files are accessible via standard file protocols: FTP or SMB/CIFS. Users can browse and drag-and-drop the archives in a file server interface. Active Media Library integrates easily with Media Asset Management (MAM) software as an FTP target location.

The Active Media Library is available from certified partners.

Comments

Since its inception, French start-up Active was only involved in storage software for file storage and data management. This Media Library is apparently the first hardware product on its catalog. The name of the mechanism's manufacturer is not revealed.
