BakBone Open Data Protection Platform

With new disk-based capabilities

BakBone Software will launch its innovative Open Data Protection platform this fall, extending the company’s focus from traditional tape-based data protection solutions to disk-based technology.

With the roll out of its new disk-based platform, BakBone’s customers will be able to centralize their data protection operations under one pane of glass, even with third party applications, while offering the ability to deduplicate their data using BakBone’s technology or using third party deduplication technology.

BakBone has traditionally offered data backup and recovery solutions that were primarily tape-based with different Application Plugin Modules to protect certain applications. With its new Open Data Protection platform, BakBone will be offering organizations the ability to centralize their data protection operations to provide flexible deployment and management options that help customers deal with their continually growing data demands for both disk- and tape-based technologies. Expanding to this new platform enables the company to move into a new realm of data protection that includes data management and a full range of products that offer a complete solution for organizations of all sizes.

Even as companies continue to try to cut costs, the sheer quantity of data continues to increase in corporate environments and is causing significant management problems for IT departments. The emergence and importance of applications like e-mail and other messaging systems creates specific compliance and control issues that require greater levels of data protection, retention and availability. By enhancing and replacing components of its virtual tape library with new products & technologies that work with third party applications, BakBone is putting more power into the hands of its users and helping them battle their growing data management problems with a single solution. Customers can leverage existing applications and infrastructure, resulting in fewer systems used to manage the same data multiple times.

As companies adapt to the economic challenges, increasing compliance demands and other factors that lead to largely increasing data volumes, BakBone is adapting with them,” said Jeff Drescher, VP of Marketing, BakBone. “Our new Open Data Protection platform builds on our current solutions, offering a way to centralize data protection by integrating with all data protection applications in an environment. With the changing time and increasing demands, BakBone is committed to delivering the technology to help our customers with all of their data needs.

Going forward, BakBone will be bringing multiple releases to the market around its new platform and continue to push its product suite to new levels and into new territory. “We have a reputation for providing our customers with backup and recovery solutions that are known for their reliability and simplicity across heterogeneous platforms,” added Drescher. “For those customers who require them, we certainly plan to continue to provide these legacy products and technologies. BakBone’s new combined suite of disk-based data protection solutions now will allow customers to flexibly protect and make their most critical server and application data available, regardless of whether the data resides in physical, virtual or cloud environments.

BakBone’s new Open Data Protection platform comes on the heels of the company’s latest release of the disk-based NetVault: FastRecover solutions. NetVault: FASTRecover provides disk-based, real-time data protection capabilities for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Windows file servers, while giving users the power of extremely fast recovery to any point in time. Customers can recover protected data to an alternate physical server or virtual machine in as fast as 30 seconds with FASTRecover’s Virtual On Demand Recovery (VODR) technology. NetVault.FASTRecover enables this enterprise-class functionality at compelling price points unseen in the market before.
