Veeam Backup Supports vSphere 4
$499 per socket.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 12, 2009 at 3:50 pmVeeam Software, provider of systems management tools for VMware virtual datacenter environments, made available version 3.1 of Veeam Backup & Replication, a backup solution for VMware environments, now with support for VMware vSphere 4. Other new features include support for Microsoft Windows 2008 and 64-bit operating systems on the backup server.
“Other vendors have announced their intent to support vSphere 4, but Veeam is pleased to be the first to offer generally available support for the backup and recovery of VMware vSphere 4,” said Ratmir Timashev, Veeam president and CEO. “New customers who have come to us through our competitive upgrade promotional program told us they also wanted 64-bit and Windows 2008 support, and were unable to get it from their previous vendor, so we added that support as well."
“Our development team is now working on our next major release, Veeam Backup & Replication 4.0, which is due in late Q3 2009,” Timashev continued. “Version 4.0 will bring even more innovative customer-requested functionality, including leveraging the new VMware vStorage APIs.”
Until June 15, Veeam is offering an aggressive limited-time promotion whereby customers using competing products for VMware ESX and ESXi backup, replication and recovery can replace these products with Veeam Backup & Replication at 50% off Veeam‘s usual suggested retail price. Customers must provide proof of purchase to qualify for this offer.
“We chose Veeam Backup & Replication because it offers a much better recovery solution compared to other products, either for the whole VM or for individual files,” said Tim Carter, senior systems administrator, Isaac Agnew (Holdings) Ltd., Ireland. “Other products back up the data twice, which is a waste of time for us. We’re on a tight window for backup, and the Veeam solution saves us time by only backing up our data once.”
