Entry-Level Xiotech SAN
The Emprise 7000 Edge, with up to 10 ISE (160TB)
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 20, 2009 at 3:46 pmXiotech Corporation introduced its latest storage solution for organizations who want affordability with flexible, scalable architectures – the new Emprise 7000 Edge system – at Interop in Las Vegas. This storage system is built upon Xiotech’s patented Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) technology, which delivers a new universal storage foundation with a combination of self-healing characteristics, the industry’s most efficient performance and scalability and unparalleled reliability backed by a five-year hardware warranty.

The Emprise 7000 Edge storage area network (SAN) solution supports up to 10 ISE (160 terabytes). It can be easily upgraded as needs evolve to Xiotech’s Emprise 7000 system, which supports up to 64 ISE (1,024 terabytes), providing true investment protection. In addition, Emprise 7000 Edge includes Web Services-based management via ICON Manager and simplified provisioning and management of storage in virtualized server environments via Virtual View.
According to a Xiotech survey of more than 400 storage administrators conducted this month, 77 percent of respondents said their storage budgets are staying the same or decreasing in the next 18 months. At the same time, organizational demand for storage is projected to dramatically increase again this year, meaning that administrators will need to find solutions to satisfy their unique organizational challenges without increased funding.
"We also saw from our survey that organizations greatly value a flexible, adaptable storage system architecture – it’s one of the top three characteristics respondents said they look for when buying a new storage system," said Xiotech Vice President of Marketing Mike Hoch. "Because ISE technology moves cache, management and drive functions close to the storage itself, it allows for component-designed storage solutions which scale as users’ business needs change and protect those users’ initial investment in storage. These are the ultimate in flexible storage architectures, and when you add in the superior reliability the systems offer, they become a tremendous value-add to the small or medium-sized business."
"Any company that is serious about chasing cost out of IT infrastructure has to begin with the fastest growing and most expensive component – storage," said Toigo Partners International Founder and Senior Analyst Jon Toigo. "The Emprise array family, built on ISE technology and W3C Web Services management standards, delivers what other vendors in the industry have only been talking about: an affordable building-block model for storage that can be customized to each application you own but managed in an intelligent and unified way. I am thrilled by Xiotech’s continued innovation in this space."
ISE technology offers 100 percent usable storage capacity with no vendor holdbacks or drops in performance as capacity utilization increases, and significantly minimizes disk-related service events through a combination of preventive and self-healing capabilities. In addition, ISE technology achieves the industry’s most efficient performance and scalability, and enables users to cut their ongoing storage costs in half through its five-year hardware warranty and lower overall management costs.
