BakBone Unveils Universal Data Management Strategy
Following the acquisition of Asempra and ColdSpark
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 19, 2009 at 3:59 pmBakBone Software is empowering customers with new levels of availability and compliance for data at rest and in motion. BakBone’s new portfolio of acquired technologies from Asempra and ColdSpark, combined with BakBone’s existing NetVault product families, expands the company’s strategic direction and provides a data-centric approach to integrating data protection, centralizing policy management and managing an organization’s messaging infrastructure to optimize performance, increase data availability and improve corporate compliance.
Companies of all sizes and industries face a similar challenge – the volume of data generated has expanded exponentially with no slowdown in sight. The emergence of e-mail and other messaging systems creates specific compliance and control issues that require greater levels of data protection, retention and availability. Currently, most companies lack the necessary management and control capabilities to enforce important corporate and compliance policies.
To address these challenges, the three pillars of BakBone’s new Universal Data Management strategy include Integrated Data Protection, Centralized Policy Management and Message Management. The new open, API-driven nature of these platforms enable an expansive data management ecosystem where the BakBone control-point can add centralized policy and management to new and existing infrastructures. This approach will provide a unique level of integration between BakBone’s portfolio and offerings from third party vendors. By integrating with third-party offerings, customers can leverage existing applications and infrastructure, resulting in fewer systems used to manage the same data.
“As BakBone delivers on our new Universal Data Management strategy, we will provide customers with a portfolio of products that allows them to manage and apply policies to data regardless of location,” said Ken Horner, senior vice president of Corporate Development and Strategy, BakBone. “Ultimately, we’re making data management less of an administrative burden by eliminating the traditional hassles and costs associated with these operations.”
BakBone’s Universal Data Management Strategy
Universal Data Management allows a company to directly control and apply policies to data, regardless of which applications create, utilize or interface with that data. Customers can apply policies and control data in both structured repositories or as data dynamically moves across the network.
BakBone’s Universal Data Management strategy
is three-fold:
- Integrated Data Protection – The availability, retention, and security of data. BakBone’s combined suite of data protection solutions allow customers to flexibly protect and make their most critical server and application data available, regardless of whether the data resides in physical, virtual or cloud environments.
- Centralized Policy Management – Provides a data-centric approach to creating, applying and maintaining policies across the enterprise. BakBone’s Policy Management solutions will allow enterprises to apply and manage their policies on data, rather than on multiple disparate applications. This unique technology allows applications to inherit and implement global data-centric policies for services such as data de-duplication, encryption, data loss prevention, data and user protection and message archiving.
- Message Management – Providing the ultimate in visibility, control and performance for messaging in the enterprise, BakBone’s Message Management solutions will allow companies to leverage Integrated Data Protection and Centralized Policy Management using a flexible and sophisticated routing platform for data in motion. By combining BakBone solutions for message archiving, classification and customer communications with a rich ecosystem of messaging partners, companies can enhance their existing messaging applications to optimize infrastructure performance, increase data availability and improve corporate compliance.
BakBone recently announced the acquisitions of ColdSpark and the technology assets from Asempra Technologies. ColdSpark develops enterprise solutions and platforms for e-mail processing and delivery, and Asempra provided real-time data protection solutions for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Windows file system data.
