IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication for System z V4.1
New configurations for better protection
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 8, 2009 at 3:32 pmIBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication for System z V4.1 allows to easily and efficiently manage hundreds of replication sessions across thousands of volumes for both open and System z attached volumes. The software can manage point-in-time, continuous volume replication services, monitor sessions, and reports on the volumes not in synchronization with the source site. It adds intelligence data protection with proactive management of copy services operations.
IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication
for System z supports:
- FlashCopy
- Metro Mirror
- Global Mirror
- IBM Storage System DS8000 Metro Global Mirror
- Basic HyperSwap
- IBM Storage System DS8000 HyperSwap Global Mirror
IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Replication
for System z V4.1 enhancements:
- Detailed reporting on the status of copy services sessions being prepared, including an estimate of the amount of time left until completion.
- New session type to allow Global Mirror to failback to Site 1. This support is available for IBM System Storage DS8000 and IBM System Storage DS6000, and requires the administrator to define a journal volume at Site 1 for the failback capability.
- A new session type that provides the ability to FlashCopy a volume to a Metro Mirror Peer to Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) primary volume while maintaining consistency of the PPRC secondary volume.
- Hardware data migration functions support, enabling administrator to migrate consistent copies of their data to remote sites, as may be required during a data center move.
- A new session type – called HyperSwap Global Mirror – which combines continuous availability with a remote copy of the data. This session type provides the ability to recover from a storage failure at one site by swapping over to a local synchronous copy of the data. This avoids system and application outages, while at the same time maintaining a copy of the data at a remote site, for use in the event that the local site is unable to function.
- The prerequisite for IBM System Services Runtime Environment for z/OS or IBM WebSphere Advanced Server for z/OS that was required in order to run IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Replication for System z and IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Replication Basic Edition for System z has been eliminated in this release.
Planned availability date: May 22, 2009
