Infobright Data Warehouse Certified With Sun Storage
"Up to 92% performance boost over alternatives", claimed the company
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 1, 2009 at 3:52 pmInfobright, an open source data warehousing company, announced that Infobright Enterprise Edition (IEE) and Infobright Community Edition (ICE) have been certified by Sun Microsystems for use with the Sun’s Unified Storage product line. Additionally, Infobright released the results of its performance testing with the Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System, which demonstrated up to 92 percent increase in query performance compared to the same tests conducted with a competitive storage device.
The testing was conducted using a real-world scenario for data analytics. It consisted of 64 different queries running repetitively for several hours against an 8TB Infobright database, varying the number of concurrent users from 1-16. The hardware environment included a Sun Fire X4450 server using NFS to connect to a Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System and demonstrated consistently faster (up to 92 percent) results than a competitive SAN based storage unit.
"The outstanding testing performance reported from the combination of the Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System and Infobright’s data warehouse technology gives customers an easy-to-use and low-cost way to analyze, manage and store growing amounts of data. We anticipate the combination of Infobright and Sun will be of great interest and value to our customers deploying datawarehouse infrastructure for Web services and MySQL," said Graham Lovell, senior director, Systems Group, Sun Microsystems.
Proven alternatives to today’s high-cost, high-maintenance data warehouse products, ICE and IEE — both based on Sun’s MySQL database- offer the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership and unmatched operational simplicity.
The Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System scales up to 576 TB per system, providing maximum flexibility and performance in data warehouse solutions. With its extreme scalability, ease of use, and DTrace Analytics capabilities, the Sun Storage 7410 simplifies storage management and offers the best price/performance value. In addition, its hybrid storage architecture offers higher performance with reduced energy consumption.
"Our testing confirmed our belief that the features of Sun’s Open Storage innovation — such as the flash memory and built-in snapshot capabilities — are ideal for data warehousing. The snapshot feature enables real-time and incremental backup, easing a problem for large data warehouse implementations," said Victoria Eastwood, Infobright vice president of engineering. "We saw the most dramatic performance impact when we tested in a multi-server environment, validating that the Sun Unified Storage System will be an ideal platform when we deliver our multi-server solution later this year."
