Sanbolic Simple Information Lifecycle Manager Incorporates VSS Support
For policy-based data protection and management
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 29, 2009 at 3:42 pmSanbolic, Inc., developer of software to simplify and share SAN storage, announced availability of Simple Information Lifecycle Manager (SILM) with support for industry-standard VSS providers and advanced scripting capability. SILM supports both Microsoft NTFS as well as Sanbolic’s Melio Clustered File System.
SILM allows files or volumes to be migrated or copied from one volume to any other volume the server has access to. It can also be used to invoke an industry standard VSS provider to create a snapshot of the data and then copy the data from the snapshot. SILM’s policy management features allow administrators to easily manage data based on customer-definable security and access policies. Users can configure SILM to automatically execute granular policies for capturing snapshots, making copies of files, as well as migrating data to appropriate types of storage based on file type, user, or access profile. SILM now includes scripting capability to provide additional flexibility in defining storage migration and protection policies.
Sanbolic’s Melio file system and LaScala volume manager enable end users to aggregate multiple storage arrays into a centrally-managed pool of storage and provide multiple Windows workstations or servers with concurrent read and write access to data over Fibre Channel or iSCSI connections. SILM is particularly effective as an ILM tool with the clustered file system allowing all servers access to all LUNs.
"SILM is a cost effective solution for managing storage in our virtual data center that allows us to easily archive information to cheaper tiers of storage," said Michael Thomason, Autometrixs LLC, a Sanbolic reseller based in Atlanta, Georgia. "We have installed SILM at a large healthcare organization and it pays for itself out of the box in the storage savings alone."
Sanbolic software currently supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008, including Server Core, and Windows Server 2008 R2.
