Mellanox 10GBe CNAs to Support VMware vSphere
For cloud infrastructures
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 24, 2009 at 3:46 pmMellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced that its ConnectX 10 Gigabit Ethernet converged network adapters are expected to support VMware vSphere. VMware vSphere is the industry’s first cloud operating system, transforming data centers into dramatically simplified cloud infrastructures to enable the next generation of flexible, reliable IT services. VMware vSphere gives customers uncompromising control, with greater efficiency, while preserving customer choice.
By supporting VMware vSphere, Mellanox expects to extend the value of its ConnectX adapter products into customers’ next-generation data centers by enabling customers to manage large collections of infrastructure – including CPUs, storage and networking — as a seamless, flexible and dynamic cloud environment.
Mellanox’s line of ConnectX EN 10 Gigabit Ethernet converged network adapters are VMware Ready Certified, meaning they have completed the VMware Hardware Certification Program testing criteria for use with VMware Infrastructure 3.5 and is now listed on the VMware Hardware Compatibility Guide. Certification testing for vSphere is work in progress. Passing the extensive certification testing helps ensure that ConnectX 10 Gigabit Ethernet converged network adapters are compatible with VMware technology and ready for deployment in customer environments.
“We are pleased that Mellanox is taking the next step to helping provide customers with a more flexible, reliable and scalable computing environment,” said Bernie Mills, senior director, alliance programs, VMware. “By supporting VMware vSphere, our partners can further enable increased efficiency, control and choice for customers.”
“Virtualization is a key technology driving lower data center total cost of ownership while enabling new cost-effective cloud computing services. vSphere provides a seamless, flexible and scalable environment to manage the entire resources in the data center and manages all the different distributed components as one highly integrated system,” said John Monson, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “We look forward to supporting vSphere with our line of 10 Gigabit Ethernet high-performance, low-power connectivity products and leveraging vSphere’s advanced features to provide the most efficient end-to-end data center solutions.”
