NVR Recovery for Pivot3 Serverless Computing

Automatically restarts surveillance applications in case of a server failure.

Pivot3, Inc. announced a new data recovery feature that protects surveillance applications against server hardware failures. The NVR Recovery for the Pivot3 Serverless Computing product line automatically restarts applications such as video management systems, access control, and video analytics in the case of a server failure. Unlike today’s failover techniques, which require separate physical server and storage units, NVR Recovery restarts a failed application on a virtual machine and provides access to previously recorded video. The NVR Recovery feature will be included at no extra charge with Pivot3 Serverless Computing arrays.

I see NVR Recovery as a must-have feature for our customers,” said Josh Mann, CEO of Aware Digital, a leading security integrator based out of Florida. “Customers invariably want the highest level of protection for their video data, but are often unable to justify the cost or complexity of dedicated servers and storage. Pivot3 is perfect for the mainstream user who wants more platform protection without any additional hassle.”

Reliability remains a main customer requirement even though price considerations and green benefits are high up on the list,” said Dilip Sarangan, industry analyst for physical security at Frost & Sullivan. “Pivot3 addresses these requirements by adding NVR Recovery to its Serverless Computing solution. It increases reliability, and it speeds up access to older recorded video in the event of a server failure; also, the failed server does not need to be replaced for prior video to be accessed. When it comes to green IT benefits, the Pivot3 storage solution reduces cost, power, cooling, and space for standby servers and storage.

Today’s video surveillance users have high expectations that systems will always be available, and NVR Recovery software is an important step to meet those needs,” said Lee Caswell, co-founder and chief marketing officer at Pivot3. “In case of a server failure, recording resumes once the failover appliance automatically reloads the server image and dynamically re-establishes network, camera, and storage connections.”

Pivot3 Serverless Computing with NVR Recovery is based on an open-system approach that allows Pivot3 storage to work with different camera, software and service providers.
