Sanbolic Clustered File System Available as Free Evaluation Version
For Windows Server 2008 R2 beta program
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 7, 2009 at 3:56 pmSanbolic, Inc.‘s Melio clustered file system is now available as a free evaluation version for Windows Server 2008 R2 beta program. Melio enables a shared LUN storage solution that supports Live Migration on Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V. In addition, Sanbolic provides advanced storage management and performance features, and can also be used to centrally assign SAN application data volumes and provide shared SAN data access to Windows 2008 R2 application servers running on the Hyper-V virtual machines. Customer can download the evaluation software on Sanbolic’s Web site.
Sanbolic Melio and Microsoft Hyper-V provide a lower cost solution for server virtualization than VMware, and Melio provides a number of features not supported by VMware’s VMFS. Melio provides essentially unlimited volume sizes, storage I/O reporting and per-VM quality of service management, and can support up to several hundred nodes in a storage cluster. In addition, Melio together with Sanbolic’s LaScala volume manager can provide central management of SAN volumes for Windows virtual machines and simultaneous shared access to application data on the SAN from multiple VMs.
"Customers have rapidly adopted Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V for their IT virtualization foundation due to its ease of implementation and lower total cost of ownership," said Jim Schwartz, Director of Virtualization Solutions at Microsoft. "With Sanbolic’s support of Windows Server Hyper-V and Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V beta, customers can further extend the benefits of Microsoft virtualization solutions with broader support for the storage layer running in their virtualized data centers."
Customers who purchase the Enterprise version of Melio for production deployments today can use it to provide a single LUN solution for Quick Migration on Server 2008 Hyper-V now, and then upgrade to Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V when it is released to add Live Migration capability. There will be no need to reconfigure the store when moving to Server 2008 R2.
Sanbolic’s Melio clustered file system and LaScala clustered volume manager install easily on physical or virtual servers, and can utilize any fibre channel or iSCSI storage hardware. Windows active directory, DFS, and clustering features are supported.
Sanbolic software currently supports Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008, including Server Core, and Windows Server 2008 R2.
Sanbolic distributes its product solutions worldwide through a network of distributors, OEMs, VARs and system integrators.
