MRV Certified by Brocade
For its Fiber Driver 10Gb XFP-based optical module on SAN infrastructure
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 20, 2009 at 3:50 pmMRV Communications, Inc., provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, optical transport, metro Ethernet, and fiber optic components, announced that the Fiber Driver 10 Gbps XFP-based optical module has been verified by Brocade as interoperable with Brocade-based Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure, according to the testing requirements of the Brocade Data Center Ready program, an end-to-end interoperability initiative for SANs.
The Brocade Data Center Ready program offers companies a complete certification of their products in Brocade SAN fabric environments. Certification included comprehensive and rigorous testing of the MRV Fiber Driver 10Gbit/sec SAN Platform for compatibility with Brocade switches and directors in multi-vendor SAN environments.
“With both of our key optical transport platforms now offering industry interoperable SAN back up links, customers have the flexibility of choosing either CWDM or DWDM backbones,” said Noam Lotan, CEO of MRV Communications. “By proving interoperability between MRV’s Fiber Driver product line and Brocade’s SAN switches, our customers can be assured that MRV’s products can be deployed immediately and seamlessly in a multi-vendor network.”
The Fiber Driver 10Gbps media modules combine ultra high-speed protocol support with the flexibility of XFP transceivers that support 10Gbps Fibre Channel along with SONET OC-192, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and G.709. MRV’s Fiber Driver product line is an innovative optical multiservice platform that provides differentiated services including fiber grooming (Media conversion, Distance extension and Signal repeating), converter-based service demarcation, advanced CWDM and DWDM solutions and digital video distribution. The Fiber Driver platform can act as a media converter, a repeater or a WDM transponder with a simple change-out of hot-swappable multi-functional modules. Despite its compact 3RU size, it can be configured for 44 sub-3Gbps and 22 1/2/4 Gbps or 10Gbps wavelengths in its energy efficient chassis. The Fiber Driver provides a wide range of optical transport solutions to enterprise, campus and metro networks with distances of 80-100km.
“We are pleased that MRV has successfully completed the Brocade Data Center Ready testing with Brocade switches and directors in multi-vendor SAN environments,” said Ben Taft, senior director of Strategic Alliances at Brocade. “Storage area networks are being deployed worldwide at a rapid rate as a scalable, high-performance networking foundation for storage environments. The Brocade Data Center Ready program is an example of our continued commitment to delivering end-to-end interoperability to customers.”
About the Brocade Data Center Ready Program
The Brocade Data Center Ready program is a comprehensive testing and configuration initiative designed to foster end-to-end SAN interoperability. As part of the program, testing is conducted in SAN configurations that include a heterogeneous mix of servers, storage systems, Brocade switches, SAN management and enterprise applications, and other SAN technologies. Brocade has created an interoperability lab featuring a heterogeneous SAN fabric, in which the company tests and validates partner equipment in specific configurations. Vendors receive Brocade Data Center Ready qualification after completing tests to confirm that vendors’ products meet interoperability guidelines.
