To provide its channel partners with 8Gb FC and IB solutions as well as HP workstations

Rorke Data, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Microproducts, announced that its new Galaxy Aurora and Galaxy HDX2 have been certified by IRIDAS, a leader in digital cinema workflow technologies. The Galaxy family of RAID and SAN-ready storage solutions is the first to offer users a choice of either 8 Gigabit Fibre Channel (8GbFC) or dual port 20 Gigabit InfiniBand (IB) with some models MSRP starting at under one dollar per Gigabyte (GB). The Galaxy storage platform features high performance capability of over 1,700 MB per second, making it the highest performing, lowest cost per gigabyte storage solution available for multi-stream HD, 2K (including Stereoscopic) and single stream 4K workflows in the post-production marketplace.

"The Galaxy Aurora SAN solution’s superior performance capability and low cost of ownership make it ideally suited to the post-production market," noted Patrick Palmer, COO for IRIDAS. "Rorke’s unique integration capabilities provide a mix of application-specific storage solutions with name brand workstations and servers, and they back the offerings with global support — which suits our customer base perfectly."

IRIDAS FrameCycler, SpeedGrade, and MetaRender products are used around the world in film and TV production, scientific research, and presentation venues. IRIDAS applications are designed to function within a workflow which may include different OS environments, pipeline configurations, and other applications. All IRIDAS software uses an open architecture which is easily scripted to integrate into any pipeline on all three major platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux) or mixed environments.

According to Joe Swanson, Rorke Data’s president, "Ten years ago this year, the Galaxy product line made its debut at the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Today, our products are being used by major Hollywood studios like Sony Pictures for digital video and audio. Industry leaders such as IRIDAS rely on the Galaxy Aurora to meet the rigorous requirements of storage intensive applications for video editing and broadcast."
