8Gb RAID Controller Launched by Atto at CeBIT
As well as 8Gb quad-channel host adapter
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 4, 2009 at 3:44 pmATTO Technology, Inc. is demonstrating several new technologies at CeBIT. Hosted by their distributing partner, Starline, the SAN demonstration will feature several ATTO connectivity products including: FastStream SC 8500 – the industry’s first 8Gb RAID storage controller, with the industry’s only 8Gb quad-channel host adapter, Celerity FC-84EN, and ATTO’s iSCSI-to-Fibre Channel iPBridge 2700. Also exhibited are ATTO’s new 6Gb SAS HBAs and ATTO’s complete line of storage solution products with connectivity to Fibre Channel, SCSI, SAS, SATA and iSCSI at the USA Storage Pavilion.
The storage area network demonstration highlights the fastest Fibre Channel host adapter in the market, ATTO’s Celerity 8Gb Fibre Channel adapter, providing twice the performance for a fraction of the cost of multiple 4Gb Fibre Channel products. Also being shown is the ATTO FastStream SC 8500, the first independent 8Gb Fibre Channel to SAS RAID storage controller that can simultaneously act as a bridging device to connect SAS tape devices into a Fibre Channel SAN as well as add RAID data protection to SAS/SATA JBOD storage, reducing overall cost of ownership. Also being demonstrated is the ATTO high-performance iSCSI bridge product for bridging Fibre Channel devices into iSCSI SANs. The ATTO iPBridge makes remote storage appear as though it is locally attached, even over the Internet. With the iPBridge users can back up their local data to remote locations, giving them peace of mind knowing they have an offsite backup without having to transport physical tapes.
The FastStream SC 8500 provides 8Gb Fibre Channel connectivity to standard SAS and SATA II storage while providing RAID protection to multiple low-cost storage arrays. By aggregating inexpensive SATA disk storage and providing RAID protection from the FastStream, users can have a low-cost of ownership on their storage infrastructure without the need to purchase more expensive RAID arrays. Featuring a one-button setup wizard that dramatically simplifies installation and configuration for database and IT environments, the FastStream SC 8500 is JBOD, DVRAID and RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 40, 50 and 60 configurable. Pools of storage can be managed from a central location providing users the ability to add storage as needed. Existing RAID volumes can be expanded, mirrors added or RAID levels changed dynamically while keeping all data intact.
The ATTO iPBridge family provides iSCSI connectivity for SCSI and Fibre Channel storage, making storage that was previously direct attached into network-addressable storage. With an iPBridge, workstations and laptops can collaborate on projects using data on those pieces of storage to provide for more efficient workflows.
“This year, CeBIT will provide us with the opportunity to demonstrate how ATTO solutions support high-bandwidth applications in multiple environments. With 8Gb technology, we showcase how ATTO storage infrastructure solutions meet the demands of today and tomorrow,” states Tom Kolniak, director of products for ATTO Technology, Inc.
