Copan Deploys Backup and Recovery Infrastructure for MultiPlan
"Saving the company nearly $1 million over three years"
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 20, 2009 at 3:46 pmCOPAN Systems announced the deployment of its data backup and recovery infrastructure for MultiPlan, Inc. This scalable implementation will allow MultiPlan to standardize and consolidate their storage solution as it continues to grow, while saving the company nearly $1 million over three years.
MultiPlan is the oldest and largest supplier of independent, network-based cost management solutions for the healthcare industry in the U.S. Following a recent acquisition of Private Healthcare Systems, the company doubled its data environment and faced the challenge of combining disparate systems in order to improve IT productivity, reduce management costs, increase data integrity and reliability, and deploy a disaster recovery solution.
"When operating in the healthcare services industry, it is essential to have technology in place that is easy to deploy, configure and manage, so we can quickly respond to customers’ needs and save on resource costs," said Keith Bush, SVP of Information Technology at MultiPlan. "As our company continues to grow, we need a strategic partner that can unify our disparate infrastructures across multiple locations, save us money and provide scalability to our system. We found that partner in COPAN Systems."
COPAN Systems deployed a combination of its MAID based 300T Virtual Tape Library (VTL) and Single Instance Repository (SIR-M) for de-duplication with internet protocol-based replication. The persistent data platform is designed to hold long term business critical information on COPAN Systems’ Massive Array of Idle Disks (MAID) platform, which offers significant power, cooling and footprint savings while allowing online access to data in less than 15 seconds. Within the first three months of the implementation, MultiPlan has already seen significant return on investment through the consolidation of five backup applications to two, round-the-clock availability of data restoration, and a decrease in data backup.
A phased implementation approach by COPAN Systems over the next two years will allow MultiPlan to expand the use of its storage infrastructure by incorporating other applications as it grows. MultiPlan also plans to integrate its remote branch offices with COPAN System’s 100T VTL, enabling it to have a complete backup and recovery solution for its remote workforce.
"As companies grow, they need technology solutions in place that map to their business challenges, especially when it comes to managing the plethora of internal and customer data in the healthcare industry," said Mark Ward, CEO, COPAN Systems. "Our phased approach to implementations has resulted in immediate business benefits for MultiPlan, including cost savings on storage space, human resources, and powering and cooling. We’re looking forward to continuing to serve as a strategic partner for MultiPlan and working together on their persistent data storage strategy."
