Storwize Surpassed 100 Customers

Last year

Storwize Inc., in primary storage optimization, capped a record 2008 surpassing 100 customers, adding new strategic partnerships and introducing new product capabilities as the company’s capacity optimization solutions continue to be adopted by organizations worldwide looking to reduce their cost of storage and associated infrastructure footprint, power, cooling and administrative costs.

Leading organizations around the world turned to Storwize in 2008 to reduce their cost of storage throughout the data lifecycle. Among the notable new customers are Mazda Motor Corporation, Polycom Inc. and Senwes. All these organizations are using Storwize to reduce their primary storage data footprint, creating associated cost and operational savings across primary, secondary and backup storage.

Overall, leading organizations in financial services, oil and gas, telecommunications, manufacturing, and rich media are adopting Storwize not only to reduce their data footprint throughout the data lifecycle but also to improve the performance and efficiency of their storage infrastructure and run a greener data center by reducing power and cooling requirements. In 2008 Storwize also continued their investment in strategic alliances with leading technology vendors including Netapp, Oracle, Symantec, and VMware.

In the past six months, Storwize enhanced its capacity optimization technology leadership with the introduction of version 3.5 which included the industry’s first 15:1 primary storage optimization capability, industry-best performance with sustained throughput of more than 600 MB/sec per node supporting even the highest performance applications, and industry-leading high-availability capabilities to support business-critical applications. Storwize received strong industry recognition of their technology leadership with the release of an independent lab validation report from the ESG Lab.

The report found that:

  • Storwize is simple to deploy – installation and configuration is a quick and easy three step procedure
  • Storwize provides significant data reduction for primary storage applications – test results illustrated 90% reduction for primary data types including office productivity files, Oracle database applications, and VMware VMDK files
  • Using Storwize can increase NAS storage performance – test results illustrated 28% faster copy performance, and 15% improvement in Oracle transaction processing and associated response time.
  • Using Storwize can make NAS infrastructure more efficient – test results illustrated significant improvement in NAS CPU and disk utilization associated response time.

The report goes on to conclude: "Storwize leverages industry-standard compression algorithms running on industry-standard servers to deliver results that are far from industry-standard. If, like most organizations…you relish the idea of reducing primary and archive NAS capacity by 75 percent or more, ESG Lab recommends that you contact Storwize."

Storwize also released several additional lab reports validating its unique ability to enhance data de-duplication. According to Peter Smails, Vice President, Worldwide Marketing at Storwize, "De-duplication is great for reducing highly redundant backup data, but it’s important for customers to understand that by leveraging the synergies of our primary storage optimization and de-duplication they can realize cost and environmental savings across all tiers of storage and achieve an unprecedented ROI."

To support the company’s rapid growth Storwize recently moved its worldwide headquarters to facilities in Los Gatos, California. The larger facility will enable Storwize to accelerate its investments in sales, marketing and customer support as organizations continue to adopt and deploy the company’s unique capacity optimization solutions.

"In today’s difficult economy, companies must do more with less. Budgets are down but storage requirements are up. We offer an effective way for IT organizations to meet their storage needs, reduce their cost of storage, and improve the performance and efficiency of their existing storage infrastructure, all while achieving an immediate ROI," said Gal Naor, Storwize CEO. "2008 was a landmark year for us. We’ve proven our technology at 100+ customers worldwide and we’ve built the sales, marketing, and support infrastructure to sustain our rapid growth. We have tremendous momentum heading into the New Year and look forward to helping customers reduce cost by optimizing their storage infrastructure."
