Emulator of HDDs With the Old ST506 Interface by Datex

The data are stored on a removable CF card.

The ST506 interface disks are no longer manufactured. Therefore, users have to get their disks repaired or replaced by some second hand disks, less and less reliable. Datastorage, the brand name of French company Datex, worried about the everlastingness of these systems, has developed the DTX300 in order for these customers to recover the reliability of their device.

The DTX300 can replace the following disks:

  • SEAGATE ST225, ST238, ST251, 4038, 4096
  • MAXTOR XT1065, XT1085, XT1140, XT2190
  • MICROPOLIS 1325, 1335
  • BULL D530, 550, 570
  • PRIAM/VERTEX V170
  • and and all other MFM and RLL disks drives.

Reliability increased in data transfer
The DATASTORAGE DTX300 uses CF card to stock the data. The access are ultrafast, and the risks of drive failure are almost non-existent, because the DTX300 has no mechanical parts moving. A preventive detection system is incorporated to deal with an eventual failure. Less heat is produced, therefore the components have a longer lifetime and the system becomes more reliable.

Easy installation
The DATASTORAGE DTX 300 uses as much space as one ST506 half-height disk 3’’1/2 and is designed to have the same features with the disk to replace. It only has to be connected in place of the replaced disk, in a completely transparent way for the system.

Extended warranty
The DATA STORAGE DTX300 has a two-year warranty with workshop return, whilst the ST506 disks repaired have generally a three-month warranty, and a breakdown rate more and more uplifted.

Comments

Prices are €1,500 to €2,400, varying according to the capacity, from 10MB to 190MB.
The Datex products are also available in the U.S. through Wilson Laboratories, Inc.
