QNAP’s MARS (Multi-Application Recovery Service) to End Support for Google Photos Backup
Users are encouraged to follow a tutorial to continue backing up their Google Photos to QNAP NAS using Google Takeout.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 7, 2025 at 2:00 pmQNAP Systems, Inc. announces that due to recent changes to Google’s Google Photos API, effective March 31, 2025, the MARS (Multi-Application Recovery Service) application will no longer be able to back up Google Photos to QNAP NAS.
To align with these changes, QNAP will release an updated version of MARS (v1.2.0), which will remove the Google Photos backup feature.
Users who have previously backed up their Google Photos to their QNAP NAS using MARS can rest assured that their existing backup data will remain intact and accessible. However, new backups from Google Photos to QNAP NAS will no longer function.
As an alternative, users are encouraged to follow this tutorial to continue backing up their Google Photos to QNAP NAS using Google Takeout.
