Teledyne LeCroy Voyager M480x Protocol Test Solution for Next-Gen USB 4 V.2.0 Specification

Backward compatible with legacy Gen 3, Gen 2 and Gen 1 USB links, Voyager M480x can address past, present, and future of USB protocol testing.

Teledyne LeCroy, Inc. announces the market availability of Voyager M480x Protocol Analyzer, the first protocol analysis system for testing next-gen USB 4 80Gb interfaces.

This solution is designed to address the entire development lifecycle including functional verification, qualification, and compliance testing.

The updated USB 4 version 2.0 specification doubles the data transfer rate of today’s USB 4 to enable higher throughput displays, storage, and USB-based hubs and docks. Aligned with the DisplayPort 2.1 standard, the USB 4 version 2.0 specification supports tunneling of ultra-high bit rate (UHBR) video for higher resolution monitors. It also features USB 3 Gen T support which, among other things, enables USB 3.2 applications to take advantage of USB 4 throughput. These additions to the USB 4 technology introduce a new level of complexity related to signal integrity, increased channel loss, new error correction mechanisms and backwards compatibility for design and test engineers that need to validate their products.

The Voyager M480x Protocol Analysis system leverages Teledyne LeCroy’s T.A.P.6 passive probe technology allowing accurate capture of the new PAM3 based signaling which is the foundation of the USB4 version 2.0 specification. The Voyager M480x provides an extensible architecture to allow the addition of traffic generation and compliance test capabilities for USB 4 80Gb in the future. Fully backward compatible with legacy Gen 3, Gen 2 and Gen 1 USB links, the Voyager M480x can address the past, present, and future of USB protocol testing. It works with industry standard USB Protocol Suite software that features a hierarchical display, real-time statistics, protocol traffic summaries, detailed error reports, powerful scripting, and the ability to create user-defined test reports, which allow developers to troubleshoot intricate problems and finish their projects on time. While offering support for prior-gen of USB, the software now includes full decoding and analysis of both tunneled PCI Express version 4.0 and DisplayPort 2.1, as well as USB Gen T protocol decoding.
