Abstract: “Exchange coupled composite (ECC) magnetic recording media were optimised for microwave assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) using spin torque oscillators (STOs) with dual field generating layers (FGLs). The optimised recording medium showed a higher figure of merit (SNR / written track width) for dual FGL STOs than single FGL STOs due to narrower written tracks. It is supposed that flux closure at the edges of the two FGLs was the reason for this.“
