Preliminary CQ1 ’24 Results:
Solid Nearline Increases Lift Total Capacity Shipments to 290 Exabytes,
Units Steady at 30 Million HDDs
• 3.5″/2.5″ Enterprise HDDs: Continuing recovery of hyperscale and steady OEM demand lifted nearline capacity shipments to approximately 240EB and 13.5 million units in 2Q24. Performance enterprise HDDs retreated sharply, however, falling by more than a quarter sequentially to around 1.1 million units.
• 3.5″ Desktop/CE HDDs: Total 3.5″ desktop/CE HDD shipments (including 3.5″ external and branded surveillance HDDs) lifted slightly Q/Q to around 9.4 million units as improving surveillance shipments offset weaker demand in other 3.5″ client sub-categories.
• 2.5″ Mobile/CE HDDs: 2.5″ mobile/CE HDD shipments fell by approximately 10% sequentially to around 6.1 million HDDs, likely resulting from further weakening of external HDD demand during 2Q24.
