History 2004: Kumar Malavalli behind Storage Start-Up Just Discovered, InMage Systems
Raising $7.3 million in 1st financial round
By Jean Jacques Maleval | May 20, 2024 at 2:01 pmKumar Malavalli is once more drawing attention to himself, again.
He, in this case, is storage luminary Kumar Malavalli, 62, the wellknown co-founder and former CTO of Brocade Communications who has invested in numerous storage networking start-ups (including Cloverleaf Communications, Inter-SAN, SV Systems, Karthika Technologies, Alpine Technologies, LightSand Communications) in both Silicon Valley and in India, and is also an advisor at lntransa.
Currently, he’s also behind a storage start-up we’ve just discovered. lnMage Systems, headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, was founded in late 2001 with financing fronted by Malavalli, who is the chairman and CEO, along with several of his friends. The company has also raised $7.3 million in its first financial round. Among its founders, we can also find a veteran of Gadzoox, Rajeev Atluri in the CTO seat.
InMage, formerly Abhai Systems, is in stealth mode and has little to say about the software it is working on, to be launched next year. It is “the first company to provide cost-effective data continuity by delivering consistent, fine-grained, business event-level data recovery at any location, at any time, and with any storage media. Based on patent-pending technology, InMage’s flagship product for data continuity, addresses the needs of companies that depend on the integrity of their backup and replication operations for business continuity,” according to its Web site.
