PRELIMINARY CQ1 ’24 Results: HDD Shipments Lift to 30 Million
Strong Nearline Demand Raises Total Capacity
to Approximately 260EB
- 3.5″/2.5″ Enterprise HDDs: Hyperscale demand strength for high-capacity models drove nearline HDDs above 12 million units in 1CQ24 with total capacity shipped for the category at approximately 210EB. Performance enterprise HDDs lifted to just above 1.5 million units producing a sequential increase in a typically weaker quarter.
- 3.5″ Desktop/CE HDDs: Total 3.5″ desktop/CE HDD shipments (including 3.5″ external and branded surveillance HDDs) declined to the low 9-million-unit range on seasonally reduced demand across all 3.5″ client categories.
- 2.5″ Mobile/CE HDDs: With 2.5″ mobile/CE HDD shipments dominated by external HDDs along with only niche low-volume CE categories, unit shipments in the mid-to-upper 6 million range fell approximately 10% Q/Q, following seasonal declines.
