This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 18, 2023 at 2:02 pmAsustor, Inc. announced its 2-bay AS5402T and 4-bay AS5404T desktop NAS.
The new gaming-inspired AS54 series bring improvements to deliver a combination of performance and price. It is powered by Intel Corp.‘s 10 nm Celeron N5105 Quad-Core processor that turbos up to 2.9GHz. The N5105 represents a 31% performance uplift over the previous-gen of Celeron CPUs while the included 4GB DDR4-2933 of RAM that brings up to 20% more performance than DDR4-2400.
New to the AS54 are the addition of 4xM.2 slots for NVMe SSDs. These slots use PCIe 3.0 to allow for fast RW speeds. Installed M.2 SSDs can be used for system storage, caching or both, and enhances access speed for data on different types of volumes. This feature provides the AS54 series with the dual benefits of maximum speed and capacity.

The AS54 series also comes with dual 2.5Gb/s network ports that support Link Aggregation and SMB Multichannel for a combined speed of up to 5Gb/s. They are backward compatible with Gb and 100Mb Ethernet and deliver read speeds of up to 576MB/s and write speeds of up to 566MB/s when using SMB Multichannel. They come with 3xUSB 3.2 Gen2x1 ports that offer up to 10Gb/s of performance, doubling the performance of USB 3.2 Gen1x1. With up to 10Gb/s of performance in the AS54’s USB ports improve transfer speeds when using external drives and external SSDs. The AS54 supports 10-bit 4K H.265 decoding streaming through the iGPU and supports video output and playback through the included HDMI port, making the AS54 for home entertainment and editing work.

ADM 4.2 NAS OS is found on the AS54 and brings improvements to features and stability. Its new quick guide feature is user-friendly, allowing users to understand the basic features of a company’s NAS as well as brand new features, including, but not limited to all-new 2 way share links for sharing files to and from Asustor NAS, MyArchive and the all new automatic mount and unmount features, DNS Challenge format, and support for WireGuard VPN clients.

With a focus on price to performance, the AS54 series has been able to double maximum memory support and USB performance compared to the AS52 and AS53 series. The chassis has even been improved with extra heat dissipation holes that not only help dissipate heat generated from M.2 devices, but look good while doing so. This helps prevent overheating and enhances the lifespan of SSDs, providing a reliable and high-performance desktop NAS solution for enthusiasts and content creators.
