Italian Manufacturing Company Clerprem Customer of Nakivo

Nakivo Inc. announced that Clerprem S.p.A. has selected its Backup & Replication to protect their environment.

Clerprem is a family-owned business that operates in Europe, North Africa, and North America and counts around 1,800 employees WW. The company is known for manufacturing premium-class seating systems, their components, and services to improve customer experience and satisfaction in both the automotive and railway industries.

Backup is important for Clerprem because the company does not host their data in the cloud but rather uses a proprietary infrastructure. For that reason, backup and data replication are the most vital components of the data protection strategy for the end user. In case of data loss, internal critical workloads could be severely impacted. Data unavailability or alteration is not uncommon and is mostly due to user mistakes. Moreover, the growing number of emerging external threats is another high-level risk for the company.

Before adopting virtualization, Clerprem relied on a backup solution that enabled backup to tape. Managing tapes was a challenge, and snapshot-based backups were not possible. As the company transitioned from a physical to virtual infrastructure, a new backup solution was imperative, as the existing product did not seem to offer the needed service and functionality. In addition, the product was Windows-based with the requirement of installing a Windows client application for management, while the firm required Linux-based installation with a modern web interface.

Clerprem selected Backup & Replication as their new VM backup solution due to the product’s range of functionalities, affordable pricing, and the ability to install on Linux.

“Nakivo Backup & Replication was deployed smoothly and the web user interface is intuitive, and there is no need for manuals to comprehend. Installation on NAS devices immediately allowed us to de-localize backup copies with a smaller investment,” says Massimiliano Carussi, EDP manager, Clerprem. “Nakivo Backup & Replication is really easy to implement and apparently quite a robust software.

“Our entire infrastructure is backed up and replicated in just 3 hours. VM backup offers snapshot-based differential backups, so it allows us to reduce backup time and bandwidth. With Nakivo Backup & Replication, we can easily sequence the backup order and replicate data while optimizing bandwidth usage with compression. All configurations can be applied in minutes. Among recovery options, the ability to power on servers directly from backups allows for a number of possibilities like configuration change simulations on live systems.

“Backup copy is the main feature that allowed us to protect data by storing data on remote company premises without the need of expensive cloud services. With instant granular recovery, there is no need to power on servers to recover files erased by mistake by some users. We just need a few minutes, and the file is recovered. Lastly, with screenshot verification, we ensure that data is really available for recovery. In the past, when using tapes, we ran into data unavailability due to damaged media.

“Technical support was always efficient, with quick replies and quick solutions. Also, any technician answering a support request always seemed to fully know the product and all its features. I had the impression of a close link between support and developers, thus, I am extremely satisfied with technical support.

“Since we relied on the file-based backup to tape, managing tapes presented a challenge, and backup time was particularly long. Previously, we were almost unable to perform a full infrastructure backup during off-peak times. A full infrastructure backup could take hours and many times resulted in backup failures. In order to cite a number, I would say that backups are now completed in a quarter of the previously required time.
