The leading university in Taiwan has entered its 94th year since its founding in 1928.
As of the 111th academic year, the school has developed into 16 colleges (divisions including International, Innovative Design, Key Science and Technology Research College, Common Education Center, Advanced Study Promotion), 3 professional colleges (dentistry, veterinary, pharmacy), 58 bachelor classes (including 56 departments and 2 bachelor’s degree programs), 146 research institutes (including 51 departments and institutes, 57 independent institutes, 34 degree programs, and 4 college-based classes). The number of students total to 35,043 (17,117 undergraduate students, 17,926 master and doctoral students).
This university continues to strive forward for excellence and innovation, to fulfill its social responsibilities as a university, and to contribute to the development and progress of Taiwan.
Challenge
The service resources of the university in its computer and information network center include providing campus information, remote learning, electronic cloud resource services to consolidate the security protection, value-added service, pervasive computing, and HPC service needs of the campus. At the same time, strengthening infrastructure improves efficiency and teaching quality for teachers and students alike during the pandemic. The implemented XCubeSAN solution is equipped with dual-active architecture (active-active), SANOS 4.0 core OS, and Intel processors, providing for more efficient storage and up to 99.9999% of consistent HA.
Solution:
Considering its cumulative goals, the institution added XCubeNAS NAS to its system services lineup, choosing Qsan again as the powerful file management function of File Manager can improve file sharing capacity and maintain the school’s evolving demands for HA and efficiency.
Benefits
The inbuilt fast RAID rebuild function of Qsan is tailored for intelligent system optimization; it can repair abnormal HDDs without being time consuming, maintaining standards of availability and stability. All the functionalities were designated from a user friendly perspective.
Qsan’s utilization of the XInsight centralized management software to gather data of all manufacturer’s products to the main server enables browsing of information about each device, including storage pools, logical volumes, HDDs, etc. and generate a detailed performance data log of up to one year’s worth of operations. Through this data, the end user can more quickly grasp the current status of all devices to predict and solve potential problems.
