Naturgy Argentina Chooses Veeam
To drive digital transformation and mitigate risk of cyberattacks and replacing IBM Spectrum Protect
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 30, 2022 at 2:00 pmNaturgy Energy Group S.A. has selected Veeam Availability Suite to deliver data protection for customer-facing services.
Part of a multinational group operating in 20 countries, it distributes natural gas to businesses and more than 1.6 million residents in Buenos Aires, Argentina. To maintain outstanding services through the pandemic and beyond, the company embarked on a digital transformation: replacing in-person and paper-based processes with online and mobile journeys. To enable these capabilities, the company leverages an on-premises infrastructure comprising 188 Hyper-V VMs and 65 Hewlett Packard Enterprise bare-metal servers.
In the shift to digital services, ensuring 24/7/365 availability was crucial. However, the company’s previous data protection system – IBM Spectrum Protect – made it complex and time-consuming to manage backups and restore services in the event of a disaster.
“Cyberattacks on utility companies are becoming increasingly common,” said Maria Fricher, a member of the systems and architecture technology team, Naturgy. “To avoid falling victim cyber threats, we targeted a more effective approach to data protection.“
Naturgy selected Veeam Availability Suite as its data protection platform and worked with local partner Commit IT to deploy and configure the solution within a few weeks. “Even though the Veeam solution is really easy to use, we don’t have to compromise on functionality,” she said. “We can protect our VMs and physical servers from data loss and cyberattacks from a single point of control. We can also create off-site backups to our DR site automatically.“
Naturgy has cut the time required to manage backup processes. It can restore its business applications faster in the event of an unplanned outage or cyberattack – helping to ensure its digital services are always online.
