Asustor: 2-Bay Lockerstor 2 Gen2, 4-Bay Lockerstor 4 Gen2 and 6-Bay Lockerstor 6 Gen2 Desktop NAS

Asustor Inc. launched 3 NAS devices, the Lockerstor 2 Gen2, Lockerstor 4 Gen2 and the Lockerstor 6 Gen2 featuring 2, 4 and 6 bays respectively.

The Lockerstor Gen2 series is equipped with 10nm Quad-Core Celeron N5105 SoC bringing speeds of up to 2.9GHz, a 31% performance upgrade over Gemini Lake. 4 or 8GB of DDR4-2933 RAM is found inside the Lockerstor Gen2 series to complement the fast performance of the CPU.

New to the Lockerstor series is the additional 2 slots for M.2 storage as all Lockerstor Gen2 series come with 4 M.2 slots for NVMe drives. The standard PCIe 3.0 slot on the Lockerstor 4 Gen2 and Lockerstor 6 Gen2 give the choice between SSDs or 10GbE cards with the use of a software switch, 4 SSD slots brings flexibility for SSD installation and provides the ability to have a large SSD volume, a large SSD cache or a mix between a volume and cache drive. It combines performance with speed and capacity, ensuring flexibility for professionals.

The Lockerstor Gen2 series is also equipped with 2xUSB 3.2 Gen 2×1 ports at 10Gb/s of speed, doubling the original Lockerstor’s speed for external devices. 2×2.5-GbE ports are found on the Lockerstor Gen2, providing up to 590MB/s and 562MB/s of read and write speeds respectively when using SMB Multichannel with a RAID-5 volume.

The Lockerstor Gen2 series also has improvements in its design. With 4 M.2 SSDs, special consideration was made to keep installed SSDs cool. The chassis contains breathing holes on the top of the NAS to allow air to enter and cool all 4 installed SSDs. The SSD card brings a tool-less design to SSD installation while Wake-on-LAN and Wake-on-WAN technologies help maintain flexibility in power efficiency and hardware longevity. For multimedia, the Lockerstor Gen2 series maintains its support for HDMI 2.0b and 4K hardware decoding as well as audio streaming. Directly edit your content on the Lockerstor Gen2 series of NAS as Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro both support direct editing on the NAS while Adobe Creative Cloud folder can be synchronized and backed up to avoid data loss. Content creators will appreciate the 4 NVMe slots for the flexibility and performance it provides.
