IBM Storage Networking SAN16C-R Fabric switch is designed to provide multiservice and multiprotocol functions for departmental and remote branch office SANs, as well as delivering an enterprise solution for large scale SANs in conjunction with IBM Storage Networking c-type directors.

SAN16C-R delivers a number of connectivity options in 1RU form factor and offers the following features:

• Up to 12 32Gb/s ports
• Up to 4 ports of 1/10GbE), or 2 ports of 25GbE, or 1 port of 40GbE for FCIP and iSCSI storage services
• Hot-swappable, redundant power supplies
• Common software platform across the entire company’s storage networking c-type family
• Integrated Cisco Data Center Network Manager (Cisco DCNM) SAN for simplified management across multiple switches and fabrics

SAN16C-R is the next gen of the flexible Storage Networking SAN50C-R switches.

It is an optimized platform for deploying high-performance SAN-extension solutions, distributed intelligent fabric services, and cost-effective multiprotocol connectivity for both open systems and mainframe environments.

With a compact form factor and advanced capabilities, it is a solution for departmental and remote branch-office SANs, as well as in large-scale SANs in conjunction with IBM storage networking c-type directors.

SAN16C-R offers up to 12 32Gb FC ports, 4 1/10, 2 25, and 1 40GbE IP storage services ports in a fixed 1RU form factor. It connects to existing native FC networks, protecting current investments in storage networks.

The SAN Extension over IP application package license is enabled as standard on the 2 fixed 1/10 GbE IP storage services ports, enabling features such as FC over IP and compression on the switch without the need for additional licenses.

Key requirements
It supports multiprotocol connectivity for servers and storage. Model 8977-R16 supports all features and functions listed, and requires NX-OS software release 8.5.1, or later.
