Media Production Company and Entertainment TV Channel specializes in entertainment media production including films, TV projects, shows and advertising. Its projects are highly popular both in Russia and abroad. It creates hundreds of hours of video content and this amount constantly grows.

Challenge
As the number and size of digital media contents grow over time, the existing NAS in different locations are not able to maintain the data services with quick access to the massive media files for sharing and archival. It becomes more complicated to find new space and network links to add more NAS for expansion.

After market research and consultation, Qsan Technology Inc. was selected as the storage vendor for the best ratio of price and performance. Its XCubeSAN 1200 series offers at cost-effective storage solution without compromising on performance. Its hardware and software features provide high level of data security. Due to the big volume of data, a huge number of drives was required. The available space in racks did not allow to use this big number of drives with the standard 4U24 JBODs.

Qsan certified Western Digital Ultrastar high density JBOD Data60 and 102 JBODs as expansion solution. So the best choice in this situation was to use QSAN XS1212D with Western Digital Ultrastar Data102 allowing to use up to 102 LFF (3.5″) HDDs in 4U rack space. The whole solution of a storage unit with a JBOD just takes 6U rack space and connectivity is simple and clear. Further expansion and upgrade won’t take much space and can be arranged without downtime. Each Qsan storage supports up to 4 Ultrastar high density JBODs. It deserved mentioning that Data102 with half population offered better cost and higher capacity than standard 4U24 JBOD.
