IBM Virtual Storage Center 5.4.2 editions have been updated to include the latest available Spectrum Control and Spectrum Virtualize software releases, in addition to several enhancements.
See the Spectrum Virtualize documentation before you install a firmware to determine if it is supported on your platform.
The most important enhancements in the Virtual Storage Center 5.4.2 release are the renaming of Virtual Storage Center Entry Edition to Virtual Storage Center Starter Edition and changes to the product limitations.
With this release, Virtual Storage Center Starter Edition (capacity license) has a 1,500TB usable capacity limit with no limits on I/O groups. Previously, it was limited to under 500TB usable capacity and 4 I/O groups. This provides clients with additional flexibility to deploy their smaller SVC environments with easily managed licensing. Because it is based on capacity and not tiered, license calculations are simplified. These configurations can be moved to standard SVC licensing as the environment grows, providing an upgrade path as system requirements change.
Previously released pricing for Virtual Storage Center Starter Edition is unchanged by this announcement. See Software Announcement 220-003, dated August 18, 2020, for complete pricing information.
Key requirements:
- Virtual Storage Center requires SVC nodes or Storwize systems.
- Virtual Storage Center for Storwize requires Storwize systems.
