StorMagic Witness-as-a-Service for Two-Server Edge Sites

StorMagic, Inc. announced that its Witness as a Service (WaaS) offering is available through StorMagic Cloud Services.

WaaS delivers 100% uptime for edge and small datacenter environments and supports up to 1,000 locations per instance.

SvSAN also includes software RAID-10, which was added to protect customers using edge servers that typically have small form factors, and cannot accommodate onboard hardware RAID.

WaaS is the next offering from the recently announced StorMagic Cloud Services and delivers a way for customers to eliminate downtime, simplify their operations and reduce IT costs. Customers can connect all of their SvSAN clusters to the company’s cloud-based WaaS, and can manage up to 1,000 sites from one instance, with nothing to maintain onsite. The firm’s architecture and lightweight witness technology supports 2-node HA clusters at edge sites and small datacenters, while competing solutions typically require 2 nodes, thus reducing customer costs by at least 33%.

Software RAID-10 support was also recently added to SvSAN to ensure uptime for customers using any small form factor edge server that doesn’t have a built-in RAID card. The company’s RAID-10 utilizes both data striping and disk mirroring to achieve data redundancy for high fault tolerance, and fast read and write speeds. Additionally, SvSAN includes KVM support for the Linux Ubuntu 18.04 hypervisor, alongside existing support for the latest versions of Red Hat and CentOS distributions.

“The need for edge computing continues to explode because many deployments absolutely need onsite IT systems to meet customer demand,” said Bruce Kornfeld, chief marketing and product officer. “Our cloud-based witness allows customers to deploy two-server clusters at dozens, hundreds or thousands of locations with 100% uptime and eliminate the need for that extra server per site.”

SvSAN and its enhancements are available from the company’s global network of reseller and technology partners. Pricing for a WaaS subscription starts at $810 per year. One WaaS instance supports 2 node clusters for up to 1,000 sites.

There is no additional cost for SvSAN software RAID-10 or KVM support on Ubuntu 18.04. They are included within the latest SvSAN base license.
