Welcome to the New Rules of the Cloud
Kaminario Technologies Ltd. started out in a very different world.
It was 2008. Business data was clunky and still mostly on-prem. So we made it our mission at first was to build the best all-flash storage solution possible. And it worked.
But then came cloud. Literally the best thing to happen to business since the fax machine. Giving us speed and flexibility, we could only dream of.
And life in the cloud was simpler back then. We had less data – so scaling it up was easy, and we could do it whenever, or however we wanted.
Then life got complicated.
Our businesses became much more sophisticated. Our data demanded more energy and resources than ever. But getting the performance or capacity we needed meant paying for all this other stuff we never even asked for.
As time went on, our cloud cost and complexity spiraled. The more we spent on it, the less we understood what it was even supposed to cost. The more we relied on it, the less control we had.
The cloud was a total game changer. But its rules were killing our growth and innovation.
Yet, no matter how unfair the rules are, we need our cloud now more than ever. It’s where all our critical data lives. It’s what our businesses runs on. It’s how our apps work.
But those are the rules. You want to live here, you gotta pay to play.
Well, we didn’t like those rules. So we decided to change them.
We took on a new mission – to change the way we cloud. So we expanded our technology to help businesses get way more out of their cloud data while spending way less. To make everything about life in the cloud way more efficient without making a single change to their environment.
To rewrite the rules of cloud, we needed to reinvent ourselves as well. We needed a brand that embodied our newfound purpose. An identity that matched our mission.
We searched for a name that tells the story of how we help businesses become stronger yet more flexible. Lighter, yet more powerful. Agile, yet durable.
So we chose the one unique element in nature that is all those things. Silk.
Silk isn’t your classic software company. It’s new, fresh, and original. And like silk, its simplicity is its sophistication.
So from now on, you can call us Silk, the cloud data platform that’s changing the way we cloud.
