PoINT Archival Gateway Supports IBM Tape Drive

With 2.1 software solution Archival Gateway for tape-based S3 object storage

PoINT Software & Systems GmbH has released V2.1 of its software solution PoINT Archival Gateway for tape-based S3 object storage.

This new version provides support for IBM TS3500 and TS4500 libraries, covering both LTO drives and IBM 3592 series models.

PoINT Archival Gateway Supports IBM Tape Drive

It is aimed at data center operators, who have high standards in terms of storage, security and availability.

Given the rate of growth of unstructured business data, and the increasing need to protect vs. ransomware (in particular with an air-gap solution), tape technology is becoming important. Moreover, tape media can store and archive large volumes of data more cheaply than HDD-based systems. As a scalable S3-based object storage system, Archival Gateway ensures that these large volumes of data can be reliably saved to tape libraries.

Archival Gateway provides an S3-compatible interface to other applications, so HDD-based object storage systems like NetApp StorageGRID and Cloudian HyperStore can also replicate or transfer data to tape with the help of the software. The solution can also be used to backup or replicate productive cloud data.

One key advantage of the Archival Gateway is its native support for integrating tape libraries and drives. This approach enables high throughput rates, rising above one petabyte per day. Thanks to flexible erasure coding settings, data can also be saved redundantly to multiple tapes or even separate libraries.
