History (1991): Laurence Hootnick President and CEO, Maxtor

Replacing Jim McCoy, George Scalise continuing as chairman

Maxtor Corp. (San Jose, CA) elected Laurence R. Hootnick, 49, as president and CEO.

Founder James M. McCoy, who has served as interim president and CEO since January, replacing George Scalise, will continue as COB of directors.

Hootnick was most recently president of Intel Corp.’s embedded controller and memory group in Santa Clara, CA. During his 18 years at Intel, he served in a variety of positions including CFO and corporate SVP sales and marketing.

In addition, Maxtor announced new management organization with 3 SVPs appointed: Thomas F. Burniece SVP of engineering; Taroon Kamdar, SVP marketing, sales and business development; and Roger A. Nordby, SVP of operations. All will report to Hootnick.

Burniece, 49, comes to Maxtor from Digital Equipment Corp., where he had been responsible for high-end disks and subsystems.

Kamdar, 45, has been with Maxtor since 1988 in a variety of executive positions, most recently as president and COO of HDD operations.

Nordby, 45, was most recently at Intel Corp., managing factories in the Far East including Singapore.
