History (1990): Conner Announces 7 New HDDs

In 2.5 and 3.5-inch form factors

Conner Peripherals (San Jose, CA) announced 7 HDDs.

The Pancho Series of 2.5-inch HDDs features average seek time of 19ms and provides 32MB (CP-2034), 42MB (CP-2044), and 64MB (CP-2064) of formatted storage in 0.75-inch high package. They use 1.3W of power, requires a single source 5V power supply and can withstand up to 100G (non-operating) of shock.

The drives initially are available with PC/AT interface. Additional interfaces will be announced in the future.

Conner expanded its 2.5-inch 20MB Kato Series, introduced in October 1989, with a new model featuring an SCSI interface (CP- 2020).

In the 3.5-inch form factor, the Summit Series provides 510MB of formatted storage, the highest capacity in Conner’s product line. It is available with either PC/AT interface (CP-3504) or an SCSI interface (CP-3500) in a half-height package (1.625-inch).

Conner also announced the first product in its Gator Series, a 3.5- inch quarter-height (0.75-inch high) HDD for high-end notebook and laptop computers. The first Gator product features 85MBs of formatted storage. Based on a footprint pioneered by Conner Stubby’s Series introduced last year, the Gator drive is 5.15 inches deep, compared to the industry standard 5.75 inches. The first product in this series is the CP-4084, which features a PC/AT interface, requires 1.5W to operate and can withstand 100G (non-operating) of shock.
