FMS: Quantumem and Kazan Demo NVMe-oF Based Up to 1PB Storage 1U System
Ethernet-attached Just of Bunch of Flash LightHeart storage supporting up to 32 NVMe-oF EDSFF modules with NVMe-oF bridge ASIC
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on August 13, 2019 at 2:56 pmQuantumem Technologies, Inc. and Kazan Networks demonstrated a NVMe over Fabric (NVMe-oF) based storage enclosure showing both performance and density.
Quantumem’s LightHeart flash storage is an ASIC-based NVMe-oF Ethernet JBOF for enterprise datacenter SSD Form Factor (EDSFF). With design for next gen datacenters, this performing storage combined with EDSFF E1.L SSDs, achieves high densities.
This EJBOF (Ethernet-attached Just of Bunch of Flash) system is a 1U chassis supporting up to 32 NVMe-oF EDSFF modules. The internal hardware-focused architecture provides six 100G uplink ports connected to performance PCIe NVMe SSDs with non-blocking access. LightHeart can achieve performance topping 16 million IO/s (4KB random read), 66GB/s throughput (128KB sequential read), and reach nearly 1PB of storage in a 1U space when using 30.72TB E1.L form factor SSDs.

Based on Kazan’s NVMe-oF bridge ASIC, these JBOF systems showcase performance and storage density. The small size and lower power characteristics of Kazan’s Fuji ASIC, combined with performance, make it a choice for this performance, high-density storage solution.

“NVMe-oF is expected to be widely adopted in the cloud data center and enterprise markets. We have achieved a new milestone towards building next generation data center platforms and green energy datacenters,” said Donnie Dong, co-founder and CPO, Quantumem. “It has been a great pleasure to work with Kazan Networks on the technologies in the industry. We are very excited about the system performance achieved.“
“Kazan Networks is extremely proud to be chosen as the NVMe-oF interface inside Quantumem’s innovative new product,” said Bryan Cowger, VP, sales and marketing, Kazan. “It has been a pleasure working with this incredibly hard-working and talented team, and this new system is a great example of what can be done with the right people and technology.“
