Western Digital IntelliFlash AFAs Now Veeam Integrated Solution
Extending data protection and management in virtualized and hybrid-cloud environments
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 4, 2019 at 2:21 pmWestern Digital Corp. announced support for Veeam Universal Storage API on its family of IntelliFlash AFAs.
The release of the IntelliFlash storage snapshot plug-in for Veeam enables customers to take advantage of the capabilities of Veeam Availability Suite, providing customers with flexibility, scalability and increased backup and recovery performance for center environments.
The IntelliFlash family, which includes the NVMe N-Series AFA, is Western Digital’s latest addition to its portfolio of data center systems to achieve Veeam integration. Other Veeam supported solutions include the ActiveScale Cloud Object Storage System, which supports Veeam Cloud Tier via its S3-compatible interface, as well as the Ultrastar Data60 and Data102 storage platforms that help customers expand existing capacities or build tailored HDD and SSD combinations to balance performance and reduce costs.
“With the addition of the IntelliFlash Plug-in to our line-up of supported Veeam solution offerings, we’ve expanded our commitment with Veeam to ensure our joint customers’ data is priority number one – protected at all times,” said Stefaan Vervaet, senior director of solutions and alliances, Western Digital data center systems. “Whether using IntelliFlash AFAs, ActiveScale cloud object storage systems or Ultrastar platforms, our customers can rest easy knowing they have a solution that has been fully qualified to offer unmatched time-to-value for simple, highly-scalable enterprise backup and data management environments.“
The release of the IntelliFlash Storage Snapshot Plug-in for Veeam improves RPO SLAs of IntelliFlash AFAs by leveraging storage snapshots with Veeam software. This integration facilitates Veeam’s backup operations on the vSphere environment by eliminating backup window bottlenecks, as well as minimizes the impact on applications during the VM stunning process.
Additional benefits of this joint solution include Veeam features including fast, granular recovery with Veeam Explorer for Storage Snapshots, agentless backup, Instant VM Recovery, Veeam DataLabs Secure Restore, SureBackup and SureReplica.
“Our growing strategic partnership with Western Digital ensures that our joint enterprise customers receive fully supported solutions for simplified integration at a highly competitive price point,” said Ken Ringdahl, VP, global alliance architecture, Veeam. “With the new Intelliflash Storage Snapshot Plug-in for Veeam, Western Digital joins a select group of Veeam alliance storage partners to integrate the Veeam Universal Storage API to provide customers a higher level of availability with better protection and management of ever-growing data volumes. As a result, this integration rounds out a broad range of Veeam integrated solutions for Western Digital that offer unique value to our customers.“
