Computex: Asustor NAS With Celeron Gemini Lake, Coffee Lake and Atom Processors
Including Nimbustor-2/4, Cabinetstor-8/10, Lockerstor-8/10, and ADM NAS OS v.3.4
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 9, 2019 at 2:29 pmThe storage market is changing with each passing day, and while audio and video needs continue to grow, it has become difficult to store audio and video files locally. Asustor, Inc. is committed to making storage solutions to handle the increasing needs for audio and video by introducing a series of NAS products with better hardware at Computex 2019.
The company is bringing two new models, the Nimbustor-2 and Nimbustor-4 featuring dual 2.5Gb ports.
The Nimbustor series use Celeron Gemini Lake dual core and quad core processors with DDR4 memory for greater multimedia performance. Newest Celerons, coupled with the inclusion of DDR4 RAM provides a more efficient NAS before while increasing performance.
Link Aggregation on the Nimbustor, when paired with a managed switch provides up to 5Gb/s of speed. With the Nimbustor, the firm continues the tradition of supporting high capacities of HDDs, SSDs and iSCSI virtual drives available, allowing customers to create a capacity storage space for the home and office.
In addition to storing a number of games and live movies, a Nimbustor maintains a stable storage experience during playback through the CPU, GPU and 2.5Gb/s ports. The Nimbustor graphics processor provides hardware decoding to reduce CPU usage for smoother playback of videos in formats such as VP9 10bit Profile2 and HEVC. With HDMI 2.0a output and a third party playback app, it is easier to deliver HDR content to UHD displays. Finally, the Nimbustor is fitted with gaming-inspired theme that shows off its roots.
Meanwhile, at Computex, the company is also showcasing two business class NAS devices and two enterprise NAS devices, coming soon to a computer store near you. Intel Corp.‘s server Atom SOC, codenamed Denverton, has made a home inside two of the company’s eight and ten bay NAS devices named Cabinetstor. Featuring a quad core SOC, the Cabinetstor-8 and Cabinetstor-10 come with eight and ten bays respectively. This Cabinetstor series come with a 2.1GHz SOC, 4GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM memory, two 2.5-GbE and two 10-GbE ports.
For enterprises with a need for power, Intel Coffee Lake series of CPUs can be found inside the firm’s enterprise NAS devices, named the Lockerstor-8 and Lockerstor-10. These appliances come with a quad core i3-8100 3.6 GHz CPU, 8GB of DDR4 SODIMM memory, three 2.5GbE ports and 10GbE. All four models support two M.2 SATA or NVMe SSDs, providing performance for the demanding of business environments.
At Computex, ADM NAS OS keeps on getting better with the appearance of ADM 3.4. ADM introduces or improves on various features, such as Btrfs support, Btrfs snapshots, EZ Sync cloud synchronization, Portainer for easy Docker management, ClamAV antivirus software, Surveillance Center, as well as multimedia apps.
The company and Asus have been working together to make Asus Control Center work better with a firm’s NAS and integrate further into an enterprise IT network. Asus Control Center, in addition to managing NAS, also works with Asus servers, workstations, commercial products and other devices in a domain. A new automatic or scheduled software delivery feature has been added to simplify tedious procedures for individual device updates, allowing network administrators to complete ADM updates of all NAS in a domain simultaneously, providing maximum efficiency network administrators.
