ISC West: Purple SC QD312 Extreme Endurance microSD Up to 256GB Card From Western Digital
For AI-enabled security cameras, smart video surveillance that capture and store video at higher bit rates than mainstream cameras
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 17, 2019 at 2:42 pmWestern Digital Corp. (WDC) unveiled the Purple SC QD312 Extreme Endurance microSD card for designers and manufacturers of AI-enabled security cameras, smart video surveillance and advanced edge devices that capture and store video at higher bit rates than mainstream cameras.
According to IHS Markit, global shipments of professional video surveillance cameras are expected to grow from 127 million to over 200 million between 2017 and 2022, and those with on-board storage are expected to grow by an average of approximately 19% per year (1).
With the migration to 4K and higher video resolutions, and the introduction of more smart cameras with built-in AI and improved local processing capabilities, surveillance cameras need to be able to store both video and raw data to facilitate these AI capabilities. As a result, storage with higher capacity, more intelligence and greater durability is required.
Expanding upon four generations of industrial storage products, the Purple SC QD312 Extreme Endurance microSD card addresses the growth of high-resolution security video with its rich feature set. The small form factor storage solution was created to meet the demands of endurance, capacity and challenging environments for the edge storage to confidently store high-quality video while reducing the need for frequent replacements.
“The complex storage requirements of the growing security camera market are set to push the status quo with modern advanced edge and smart video devices. Surveillance customers look to durable and reliable devices with intelligent monitoring to save time and investments,” said Oded Sagee, senior director, devices, Western Digital. “With the microSD card introduced today, we are leveraging the power of 3D NAND to ensure no-compromise, primary, on-camera storage for high bit-rate video and advanced functionality for some of the latest AI-enabled smart cameras.“
The company is currently sampling the Purple SC QD312 Extreme Endurance microSD card to OEMs.
The firm offers a portfolio of surveillance storage products and solutions to help people capture, preserve, access and transform their content. These products as well as its entire surveillance portfolio, including the WD Purple 12TB HDD, will be showcasing at ISC West in Las Vegas, NV.
