OCP: SK Hynix Demonstrated Solution for Enterprise SSD
Development of ZNS SSD within this year, with goal of releasing commercial products for data centers in 2H20

The world’s second-largest memory chip maker showcased its zoned namespaces (ZNS) software for enterprise SSD in the Open Compute Project (OCP) global summit held in San Jose, CA, from March 14-15.
This software increases data processing speed by 30% and lasts four times longer than the existing SSD solution by storing data,in different spaces, according to their purposes and frequencies of use, the company said.
The firm said it will complete development of ZNS SSD within this year, with a goal of releasing commercial products for global data centers in the first half of 2020.
Major chipmakers showcase their new open hardware in the OCP Global Summit, which brings together engineers, developers and decision makers in the tech industry.
According to market researcher IHS Markit, the global SSD market is expected to grow from $32.4 billin in 2018 to $51.8 billion in 2022. The enterprise SSD market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 15.7% over the period, a faster expansion than the consumer SSD market, it noted.
